Welcome (Michaelmas 2006)

Hi, and welcome to Oxford, whether it's for the very first time or a long-standing routine! A few words from El Presidente to let you know what's going on this term.

This website contains details of all the trips, socials and other events happening over the next 8 weeks. So keep an eye on it for the most up-to-date information. Members will also receive a termcard booklet with lists of all activities.

If you're looking to join OUWC, have a look at the membership page, where you can find the form to fill in. It's always great to have new people join us. To get an idea of what we get up to, have a look at the photos section.

This term we have a full schedule of trips. For a great couple of days away, we have weekend trips going to the beautiful mountains of Snowdonia (3rd week), the rugged coastline of Gower Peninsula (4th week), the desolate tors of Dartmoor (5th week) and the idyllic Yorkshire Dales (6th week). To round off the term, there's a long weekend in the serene fells of the western Lake District. If a whole weekend's too much to spare, how about hopping on a minibus for a day trip to the South Downs coast, Wenlock Edge, or the rocky Roaches in the Peak District. Whatever your taste in walking, there's bound to be a trip for you! See weekend trips and minibus day trips.

As usual there will be a local walk held every Saturday and Sunday of term. What better way to get a bit of fresh air than with a relaxing stroll in the surrounding countryside? Come along and bring a friend—you don't even have to be a member to join in! Find a complete schedule on the local walks page.

Of course no term would be complete without a packed social schedule.See the socials page for the full list. Socials are a great way of mixing with different people -- the club has about 350 members -- and having a laugh with some of our more random activities! Bring your holiday snaps along to our Photo Exhibition, or try your hand at Pumpkin Carving; share some world cuisine at the International Food Evening, or simply chill out in the pub. The highlight is the annual Ceilidh, a hilarious night of Scottish dancing -- though "dancing" is interpreted loosely, especially in my case! Don't knock it 'til you've tried it, it's great fun, highly amusing, and you get to dance with lots of different partners ;-)

So, to wrap up, there's loads going on and we'd love you to get involved! Also, if you're interested in getting more stuck in with the running of the club, it would be great to hear from you. We are always looking out for new leaders, local walk leaders, drivers and committee members -- you don't have to do loads and all help is appreciated! To take a peek at the mugshots of your current committee, see the committee page & you're welcome to email any of us with questions or comments!

So all the best for a fantastic term, have fun and see you around!
