Home : Membership MembershipMember BenefitsAlthough you don't have to be a member of the Walking Club to come on Local Walks, you do have to be a member to go on Weekend Trips and Minibus Day Trips and there are other benefits. As a member, you gain entrance to all of the Club's Socials, the right to vote and stand for committee positions in the Club's Termly General Meeting, and the free use of club equipment and maps (subject to availability). Because the Walking Club is affiliated to the British Mountaineering Council (BMC), members have other benefits: see the BMC website (external link) for details. Get in touch with the Membership Secretary (membership(at)ouwc.org) if you have any questions about membership. The elected committee oversees the Club's budget, and ensures that the membership revenue is spent sensibly as to benefit the Club's membership as a whole. CategoriesThere's only one type of membership and this costs the same regardless of whether or not you're a student. Memberships all expire at the end of the Long (Summer) Vacation and there are two costs, depending on when you join:
JoiningAnyone who would like to join the club should complete a membership form (linked below). Completed forms and payment should be brought to Free Tea or sent to the Membership Secretary (membership_at_ouwc.org). Contact the Membership Secretary if you have any questions regarding membership. Please note: any membership forms and payments sent during the vacation may not be processed until the start of the following term.
RenewalYou can renew your membership at any time by filling in a Membership Renewal Form (linked below) and sending it and payment to the Membership Secretary (membership_at_ouwc.org) or bringing them to Free Tea. The renewal costs are the same as those for new memberships.
AlumniLook at the Alumni page for information on our alumni scheme. Data Protection ActThe Club records the membership details given voluntarily on the Membership Forms in a computer database. It is a legal requirement that the Club notifies you that this is the case. If you wish to have your details removed from the computer database, then you may. The information stored will only be made available to the Club's Committee, the Proctors and the British Mountaineering Council (BMC), and will not be distributed to other organisations. (Some information (such as names, date of birth, sex, address and email address) is forwarded to the BMC because we are affiliated with them.) Please contact the Membership Secretary (membership_at_ouwc.org), for more information or to see the details held about you. For information on the BMC see their website (external link). |
