Membership
Member Benefits
You must be a member of the Walking Club to go on Weekend Trips and Minibus Trips (you don't have to be a member to come on Local Walks). As a member, you receive a copy of this termcard, entrance to all of the club's socials, the right to vote and stand for committee positions in the club's termly general meeting, and the free use of club equipment and maps (subject to availability). The elected committee oversees the club's budget, and ensures that the membership revenue is spent sensibly as to benefit the club's membership as a whole.
Categories
We've changed the membership structure this term to make things simpler, in response to the survey results and to ease any possible affiliation with the British Mountaineering Council (BMC). All current memberships will expire when they would under the previous system.
There's only one type of membership and this costs the same regardless of whether or not you're a student. Memberships will all expire at the end of the Long (Summer) Vacation and there are two costs, depending on when you join:
- Join during Michaelmas Term, Christmas Vacation or Hilary Term: £12
- Join during Easter Vacation, Trinity Term or Long (Summer) Vacation: £6
Anyone who would like to join the club should complete a membership form. Completed forms should be sent to the Membership Secretary (membership_at_ouwc.org). Contact the Membership Secretary if you have any questions regarding membership.
Renewal
You can renew your membership at any time by filling in a Membership Renewal Form (available from the website) and sending it to Chelsea (membership@ouwc.org). The renewal costs are the same as those for new memberships.
Alumni
The Club is currently in the process of setting up an alumni scheme for members who have left Oxford but who are still interested in OUWC activities. Hopefully it will be a way of keeping in touch with people when they leave and scatter to the four winds! Ideas include an alumni mailing list, newsletter (the first issue is due out shortly!), special events and an alumni trip. We're also hoping to set up an alumni fund which could be used, for example, to sponsor leader training. If you are or will soon be an alumnus and would like to join the scheme and/or make any suggestions, please contact the Alumni Secretary (alumni_at_ouwc.org). More details are available in the alumni section of this website.
Data Protection Act
The club records the membership details given voluntarily on the Membership Forms in a computer database. It is a legal requirement that the club notifies you that this is the case. If you wish to have your name removed from the computer database, then you may. The information stored will not be distributed to other organisations and will only be made available to the club's committee and the proctors. Please contact the Membership Secretary (membership_at_ouwc.org), for more information or to see the details held about you.
To join the Club or to renew your membership, please download one of the
forms below and send it to membership(at)ouwc.org.
Please note: any membership forms and payments sent during the vacation
may not be processed until the start of the next term.
