Welcome (Hilary 2015)

Welcome to Hilary Term with OUWC! Although it’s a time of the year associated with stormy weather and dark days (or bright, crisp winter days if you’re being optimistic), we don’t hold off on our trips! As always, we have a busy term of weekend trips, day trips and local walks lined up. We’ll be heading to the Lake District (with fellow walkers from Cambridge) and North Wales to access some great hillwalking in the mountains there. We’ll also be off to the Jurassic Coast, Cheddar Gorge and Stonehenge/Salisbury on day trips. For those fancying something closer to home there’s our ever popular local walks.

Our social events calendar is also full with the Annual Dinner being the main event – details to follow closer to the time! We also meet each Wednesday for a visit to Chequers pub on High Street (usually from 9pm), so come along and enjoy a drink with fellow walkers. This term, I’m keen to encourage everyone to get involved more with the club, whether that’s organising a trip for Trinity term or leading a local walk. The club is run on the basis of people volunteering their time to organise these trips – it’s not too much work and we can team you up with more experienced members to help. More importantly, organising a trip is the best way to go walking in the places that interest you! We need drivers too - if you're over 21 and able to drive, consider taking the minibus test. This gives you a guaranteed spot on trips. Please also consider joining the Committee at the TGM towards the end of term!

If you don’t feel up to organising a trip but still want to get more involved with hillwalking in general, then you may be interested in map reading/navigation evenings and other skills evenings planned. Watch this space for details!

Finally, don’t forget that the club offers the opportunity for keen walkers to find like-minded people to join them, whether that’s for a walk locally during the vacation or for something more adventurous like trekking in Europe or scrambling in North Wales. If you have any questions about the club or want to get more involved in some way, then please contact me at ().
