Mailing Lists

OU Walking Club has six electronic mailing lists, walking-announce, walking-general, walking-drivers, walking-leaders and walking-localleaders and walking-alumni. The Club uses the walking-announce mailing list to distribute information relevant to Club activities to its members, and the walking-general mailing list is used by members to discuss walking-related issues such as private walks and trips. The walking-drivers, walking-leaders and walking-local leaders lists are used by the Committee to communicate with the Club's groups of drivers and Trip Leaders. The walking-alumni list is used by, and for the club to communicate with, OUWC Alumni.

walking-announce

walking-announce is the mailing list for official announcements about Club activities, including important news, places available on Club trips, corrections or changes to local walks, reminders of social events, etc. You will normally get one or two e-mails each week during term-time. Only Club officials can authorise messages to be sent to the list. The e-mail addresses of all new members are automatically placed on the mailing list, so there is no need to subscribe if you intend to join the Club in the next few days. Members and non-members are welcome to subscribe to the mailing list. To do this, send a blank message to walking-announce-subscribe@maillist.ox.ac.uk and the server will add your address to the list. To unsubscribe, replace subscribe with unsubscribe in the above address.

walking-general

walking-general is the mailing list for members to discuss walking-related issues, such as private walks or trips, or to buy or sell walking equipment. At the moment the list is only rarely used, but any member may subscribe to the mailing list, then send e-mails directly to walking-general@maillist.ox.ac.uk which is the list's e-mail address. Please note that the content of e-mails sent to the mailing list is not regulated by OU Walking Club, as the list simply operates as a mechanism for members to discuss issues amongst themselves. OU Walking Club therefore takes no responsibility for the content of e-mails sent to the list and would like to emphasise that private walks and trips are not subject to the safety regulations of the club.

Subscribing and unsubscribing is done in the same way as for walking-announce above, but with announce replaced with general in the e-mail addresses. If you have any problems subscribing or unsubscribing from either list, please contact webmaster@ouwc.org.

walking-drivers, walking-leaders and walking-localleaders

These are closed lists for drivers, Trip Leaders and local walk leaders only. Contact secretary@ouwc.org, trip.safety@ouwc.org or archivist@ouwc.org respectively if you feel you should be on one of them.

walking-alumni

This list is used by OUWC Alumni and by the club to communicate with alumni. See the alumni page for details.
