The wild expanses of Dartmoor were the inspiration for Conan Doyle's Hound of the Baskerville s and many other writers and painters. Truly a great way to get away from urban Oxford!

We will be staying on a working farm right in the mi ddle of the moors. The bleak beauty of Dartmoor is r ight on our doorstep. There will be options for walks in t he north and south of Dartmoor of varying lengths\, w hich we will decide on the day. All other food i s included in the trip.

The trip : We will be staying in the Low Gillerthwaite Field Centre \, near Ennerdale Water. We will walk in the western p art of the Lake District\, which is composed of a mixture o f rolling hills and high mountains with stunning sea views. Some nearby peaks which might feature on the tr ip are Seatallon\, Pillar\, High Stile\, Kirk Fell and G reat Gable.

About the Lake Distr ict:The Lake District was born as an archipelago of volcanic islands in a shallow tropical sea. Over the ages\, the continent carrying these isla nds drifted northwards\, then collided with anoth er continent. This lifted the remains of the vol canic rock into highlands\, forming the mountains we s ee today. Even t details at http://www.ouwc.org/weekend/03/ CLASS:PUBLIC END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
