Scotland Weekend

We're taking the opportunity of the summer vacation and longer days to have a long trip to Scotland, with more dramatic scenery and higher mountains than we can usually get to on club trips.
The trip is from THURSDAY 27TH JULY until MONDAY 31ST JULY: starting from Oxford on Thursday morning and driving back on Monday, arriving back in Oxford late in the evening. We'll be camping for four nights at Faichem Park near Invergarry set in "one of the most beautiful and spectacular areas of the Western Highlands".
The plan is to spend three days walking up Munros in the Loch Quoich and
Glen Shiel area, the highest of which is over 1100m. There should be
some fantastic and strenuous hiking and, depending on the weather, good views over the wild
landscape.
**IMPORTANT: There will be SIGNIFICANT ASCENT each day (Munros are over
914m high), ROUGH/ROCKY TERRAIN and not necessarily a path. Because of
where we are staying, the number of leaders, and logistical issues we
will NOT be able run an alternative lower level or shorter walk any day.**
The cost is £80 which includes minibus from Oxford, camping, four
breakfasts and packed lunches (Fri-Mon) and two evening meals. We'll be
stopping in a pub for food Thursday and Monday and one evening while
we're camping.
To sign up please send a cheque (payable to "O U Walking Club") for £80
to Christopher Thomas, Merton College. Also EMAIL the following
information: Full name, college (or department), date of birth, dietary
requirements/allergies/medical conditions, whether you'll need to borrow
any equipment and whether you are a University minibus driver. If you need to pay cash,
please email to arrange to meet up.
You must also read carefully the "Equipment List and Participation Statement"
(www.ouwc.org/weekend/equipment/). Fill in the participation statement and send it to me
with the cheque.
I must receive the cheque and information by **SUNDAY 9TH JULY**. If the trip is
oversubscribed, places will be allocated by a ballot on that date in the same way as normal
trips. After that date any free places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
In addition to the normal equipment you will need a sleeping bag and camping mat. We'll be
taking some of the club's tents. If you have your own tent and want to take that instead
please let me know and whether you'd be willing to share it with someone. I have to tell the
campsite how many tents we are bringing and, due to limited space in the minibus, we might
ask you to use a club tent instead.
Because of the cost of running the trip, if you pull out of the trip we
can not refund you unless your place is subsequently filled.
There are still some details of the trip to be arranged. If for some
reason it can't go ahead you will be given a full refund.
