MT04 Welcome

Enjoy An Autumnal Adventure With OUWC!

Welcome back after the long Summer vacation and a very warm welcome to those joining us in the Walking Club for the first time!

Oxford is a wonderful place to study and live, but over 9 weeks it is easy to feel over-pressured and claustrophobic. So, what better way to deal with this than to escape for a wonderful weekend of walking and socialising with OUWC? Our trips cover a wide range of destinations, from relaxed rambling in the picturesque Wye Valley at the end of 5th week, to more challenging peak bagging in the mountains of Snowdonia (end of 2nd) and the Lake District (end of 4th).

If you cannot manage a whole weekend away, or just fancy topping up your walking, then the club also runs minibus day trips to equally varied but more local destinations such as the Brecon Beacons, Dorset Coast, Rutland Water or the Long Mynd (Long Mountain).

To sign up for trips, come along to our Free Tea in Wadham Old Refectory on Wednesday 1st week at 5pm. Here you can also join the club, chat to trip leaders and sign up for the climbing social.

Speaking of socials, these are an excellent way of meeting new and old friends. This term, we have a varied mix of fun socials, including that most popular of Walking Club traditions - the Annual Ceilidh! Slip on those dancing shoes at the end of 6th and make fools of yourselves with many other OUWC-ites to the tunes of the "Mouse and Trousers".

None of our trips could run without minibus drivers. If you are over 21, and have at least 2 years UK driving experience, then you can guarantee yourself a trip place and help out the club by becoming a minibus driver. Contact our Secretary, Alex, at secretary@ouwc.org for more information on driver training courses.

Keep in touch with all club news by reading the emails I send out (at least once a week), and checking this website. These will contain up-to-date news about any changes to trip and social details, plus news about upcoming leader training courses.

I look forward to meeting you. Have a great term!
