Welcome (Hilary 2010)

Hello, and welcome back to a new term with the walking club! I hope you're all rested and ready to get back out into the hills!

We have 4 weekend trips planned for this term, all of which are to areas more rarely visited by the club. We begin with a trip to the Peak District (at the end of 3rd week): join Rob for a trip to the rugged heart of England. At the end of 4 th week, Michelle and I will be heading to Dartmoor, to check out some of the wildest scenery in southern England. 5th week sees Bernhard heading to the Yorkshire Dales. Finally (at the end of 9th week), we round off the term with a trip to the Galloway Hills in southern Scotland: join Jaya John for a trip to one of the more remote corners of southern Scotland. And if anyone still needs their fix of the Lakes or Snowdonia, the club is always on the lookout for new trip organisers!

For those of you who can't manage a full weekend away, we have one minibus day trip planned, to the Roaches: join Rachel as she heads to this expanse of gritstone in the southern Peak District.

As ever, the more informal local walks will take place every weekend, for those who want something a bit closer to Oxford. These walks are more flexible- just turn up on the day! They also offer an easy introduction to navigation and leading- contact Justin, the archivist (archivist@ouwc.org) for more details on being a local walk leader.

The main social event of the term is our annual dinner, which will be held on Saturday 27th February (end of 6th week). This is our annual black tie dinner, where we all get together, dress up, eat good food, and have a very civilised evening. Not to be missed!

All of this is only possible if volunteers help out. There are plenty of ways to help out in the club: weekend and minibus day trips require trip organisers, trip leaders, and minibus drivers. Without them, trips could not go ahead. Contact Jaya John (trip.safety(a)ouwc.org) if you want to organise or lead, and Imogen (secretary(a)ouwc.org) if you're available for driving. And finally, do consider getting involved on committee! Feel free to contact me (president(a)ouwc.org) for further details.

I hope to see you all in the hills soon!
