Hilary Term 2004 - Out Of Hibernation This Hilary With OUWC!

It's my pleasure to welcome everyone back to Oxford for another great term of walking with OU Walking Club!

We've put together a termcard packed full of events to help you explore the varied and beautiful outdoor environment that the UK has to offer. There are 6 Weekend Trips this term, which are all great value for money - not only do we arrange the transport, accommodation and plan exciting walks for you, but all food (except for on the journeys) is provided too! If it's the mountains you're pining for; head for Snowdonia or the Lake district. Or if it's the stunning coastline you want to see; the Pembrokeshire trip is for you. We've also trips to Exmoor and a special "War of the Roses" trip... which as the title suggests, will give you the chance to visit the two rival counties in a single weekend! All promise to be great fun and an awesome opportunity to escape from those dreaming spires...

It can all get a bit hectic here in Oxford and sometimes a full weekend away just isn't possible... so why not join one of our 4 Minibus Day Trips? These open up new possibilities for walks in areas you may not otherwise have had the chance to visit. This term, minibuses will be off to the amazing cliffs of the South Downs, the gorges of the Limestone Mendip Hills, the Forest of Dean and also to a mystery location near Marlborough...

To sign up for trips, come along to our Free Tea in Wadham Old Refectory on Wednesday 1st week at 5pm. Here you can also join the club, chat to trip leaders and order club merchandise. See page 8 for more details on this and what to do if you cannot make this event.

As ever, there will also be a local walk every Saturday and Sunday during term time. For these walks you can just turn up and enjoy a great day out...

We are also putting on a range of social events - these are a great way of meeting new friends and also an opportunity to recount the tales and share photos from the trips you've been on! An event not to be missed is the traditional club Annual Dinner. This is always a memorable occasion and will be accompanied by a humorous review of the clubs activities over the last 12 months - email the Social Rep, James, at social@ouwc.org for your ticket!

I will keep you all up to date with club news by sending out regular emails (at least once a week), and remember to visit our website - www.ouwc.org - where details of trip places will be posted and also information about future training courses.

Here's to an adventurous start to 2005!
